PC Specific Features:

* Rockstar have claimed the "modding community will be supported." Specifically in what ways is yet to be seen.

A great part of the PC version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the possiblity to modify it: Rockstar claims to have left important game data files unlocked and in text files as opposed to hard-coding them in the game. Although Rockstar lists "player modifications support" as a feature, it's safe to assume that Rockstar will not be providing any game editors with the game, and we can expect to be able to import additional player skins, probably in the form of clothes. Player models are at the moment split into around 10 different pieces, with two of each for different fitness levels. As such, player skins as seen in GTA Vice City are unlikely, unless we are provided with a custom slot with a single static mesh skin. Bear in mind that this is simply speculation at this point, as nothing solid has been confirmed yet.

It was decided that the PC version of San Andreas will not have an inbuilt 2-player mode as "the dual keyboard and mouse set up proved too unwieldy for players and didn't work with the PC version of San Andreas' greatly improved free camera mechanics. Rockstar North decided to focus on maximizing the single player experience."

Imagine that all the coolest and most popular radio-controlled cars have come to life and escaped the store shelves. OK, maybe you'd better not. It's a silly idea that feels unnecessary and tacked on in Acclaim's new racing game Re-Volt. Fortunately, the game is better than its premise and delivers some memorable arcade racing thrills. On the other hand, Re-Volt has its share of problems and ends up being only decent when it could have been great.

Strip away the bad premise, and the basic idea behind the game is that you race little radio-controlled cars around a series of cool and unusual tracks. Essentially, you get to drive these puppies where you wouldn't be able to in real life. You have more than 28 different cars to choose from (each rated differently for speed, acceleration, and weight), though most of these are locked at the beginning of the game. As you progress through the game's four championship circuits, you'll gain access to more cars.

Tracks include the inside of a toy store, a suburban neighborhood, the deck of a ship, a museum, and a town in the Old West. In all, the game offers 14 single-player tracks including the stunt track, which is a free-for-all course on which you can try some slick jumps, loops, and other nifty maneuvers. If you manage to win enough races, you can also take on most of the tracks in mirrored or reverse modes. The game relies a little too heavily on this, however, and actually throws a mirrored track at you very early on. So instead of letting you race on a new track for each of your first 13 runs, you begin seeing familiar surroundings as early as your sixth race.

Fortunately, gameplay is pretty solid as far as arcade racers go. The game offers four different speed and realism settings, which govern how fast you can go and how harsh the physics are during each race. On the higher settings, Re-Volt can be extremely challenging, as it becomes remarkably easy to spin out your little car or, worse yet, flip it over to lose precious seconds. The lowest setting offers little relief, since it slaps a speed delimiter on your car but doesn't seem to slow down your opponents at all once you progress past the first championship circuit. Actually, that seems to be a theme throughout the game, since even when you're running flat-out with the fastest car available, the computer cars always seem to be able to pass you with ease. The AI also has access to different cars than you do at most points, which doesn't seem very fair.

Still, if you can grasp the controls, you should be able to stay competitive in Re-Volt after a few races' worth of practice. If you're still having trouble, the various power-ups can help even the odds a bit. The optional combat race mode lets you pick up much-needed energy boosts, as well as weapons and other goodies that you can use to take out your opponents. Of course, the AI cars can pick them up as well, so many races end up resembling high-speed mini-deathmatches.

As you compete, you'll find that one extremely annoying problem with Re-Volt is the lack of a basic save game feature. True, your progress is recorded after you complete a championship circuit, and each circuit is typically only three or four races in length. But the developers should have recognized the fact that not all players can sit down and race through four tracks at a time every time they play the game. Saving mid-race would be ludicrous, but saving after each race should have been a no-brainer.

Re-Volt includes a track editor that lets you build your own courses. While I'm hesitant to criticize any feature that lets you extend the life and enjoyment of a game, unfortunately the editor is rather unintuitive and offers a paltry array of scenery and track-style options. In fact, it's nearly impossible to recreate any of the pre-built tracks' coolest jumps, twists, or slopes with this editor. Also, you can't drop your track into any of the stunning environments that surround the game's pre-built tracks. A few more options, a much better interface, and a way to create surrounding terrain would not only have improved the editor, but would have made it fit the look, feel, and style of the game. As it stands, the game and the editor feel like they're two different products, not two parts of the same thing.

Don't get me wrong, Re-Volt isn't a bad game. It's quite a lot of fun, in fact. It even has a great soundtrack, which is predominantly techno-dance music but very good techno-dance music and perfect for the gameplay. But the overall package is weaker than it should be as a result of its scattered flaws, which is unfortunate since it could just as soon have been one of the year's best arcade racers.

After making a name for himself with horror classics such as The Damnation Game novel, The Books of Blood short-story collection, and the feature films Hellraiser and Candyman, Clive Barker has slowly moved away from the horror genre toward more fantasy-centric work. Barker hasn't completely forgotten about his first love, however, and Clive Barker's Undying, a first-person action game from Electronic Arts and DreamWorks Interactive, beautifully captures the type of horrors that populated Barker's earliest works. And not only is this game genuinely frightening, it's also a lot of fun to play.

Cast against the backdrop of Ireland in the year 1923, Undying follows Patrick Galloway, an investigator of the paranormal. Galloway has been summoned to Ireland by his old war buddy Jeremiah Covenant to put an end to the strange occurrences at the Covenant family estate. What Galloway finds is a house of horrors that is populated with Jeremiah's dead siblings (and other ghastly creatures), all of whom want to snuff out Jeremiah so they can complete a spell cast when they were children.

Graphically, Undying is first rate. The Unreal Tournament graphics engine has been used to great effect and the result is amazing character models and environments. The haunted mansion is suitably dark, with wispy draperies and macabre paintings. The estate's grounds are a mix of lush Irish countryside and crumbling ruins, all set against vivid skies.

Pretty pictures aside, the most impressive thing about Undying is its atmosphere--this game is flat-out scary. Every element of the game, be it the gothic architecture, eerie story, great weather effects including rain and lightning, or amazing sound effects, perfectly complement each other. The result is a gameplay experience that rivals the Resident Evil series in terms of generating sheer terror in the player.

The great atmosphere isn't Undying's only innovation--it also features a very cool two-handed attack system. Most action games saddle the player with an attack system where one hand controls all the weapons and the other hand does nothing. In Undying, the left hand (and left mouse button) controls the standard weapons, such as the pistol and shotgun, while the right hand (and right mouse button) casts spells. This is a great gameplay device and ensures the action stays at a frantic pace.

Of all the spells in the game, the coolest is the Scrye spell. When cast, it lets the player see and hear past events--some of which are quite horrific--and occasionally it shows you how to progress beyond a certain level. This help can come in the form of highlighting certain objects or unveiling a portal, but whatever the method it is a very well-designed gameplay element.

The only real complaints with Undying involve the long loading times between levels and the system requirements, but even those aren't enough to derail this excellent--and terrifying--action game.

Time and time again, painters the world over have waited for this precise moment to depict it in their works or have imagined it to represent an image of the Angel of Death in their pictures. The members of the Order have set themselves the task of never allowing this to happen, whatever the cost. Investigations have revealed that, wherever possible, they make direct contact with the artist to dissuade him from his intentions with payoffs of large sums of money or even death threats; the so-called "Order" will stop at nothing. Colonel Ostankovic is also aware of this and raises the alarm. He puts Larisa Ivanovna SvetJova on the case; she is one of the finest brains in his department and an officer who also works for Interpol in Lyon. Larisa in turn contacts Maxim Durand, a former art forger who, owing to his contacts in the field, has often worked for the art theft squad.

Far Cry I Full DVD ISO - DEViANCE

It's not often that an upstart developer comes out with a new engine along with an incredibly polished game. Far Cry, though, is not only notable for being the first entry by Crytek into the crowded PC first-person shooter market – it is quite possibly the best one-player, action-intensive shooter ever. Yes, the multiplayer is good, but the true strength of this title is in the solo experience.

Of all the incredible things I could bring up about the offline experience, the enemy AI is my absolute favorite – the best I've ever seen by a long shot. They react realistically to seeing or hearing things, use cover better than most human players, and call in backup when they're in trouble. To top it all off, different bad guys have distinct AI – there's nothing so awesome (and frustrating) as coming up against better-trained troops who know just how to counter the tactics you've been using to great effect against the grunts.

The variety to be found as you progress through the approximately 20-hour campaign is another unparalleled achievement on Crytek's part. Not once, even for a moment, did I feel that it was a chore to tackle whatever challenge was in front of me. Whether it's the environment, the weapons and gadgets available, new enemies to defeat, or nonstandard objectives to accomplish, Far Cry continually innovates – even after ten hours into the quest, something new was constantly causing my jw to drop in awe. The vehicles integrate seamlessly into the action, whether you're flying across a crystal-clear bay in a speedboat (with a mounted minigun, of course) or evading enemy choppers trying to hunt you down. Additionally, all of the weapons (and the several different grenades) react nicely, including their reload times, rate of fire, and accuracy.

Graphically, Far Cry is right up there with the triple-A titles coming out. The most impressive thing, though, is the draw distance. You can literally see the trees on an island a kilometer away, and fully animated water out to the horizon. Also, lighting is very nice (mottled sunlight filtering through foliage is my new favorite graphical effect), and shadows are quite detailed. The icing on the cake is the incidental effects, which will continually surprise you as you go on. For instance, take a big hit and your vision and hearing will momentarily get all funky.

Between three multiplayer modes and 11 maps, as well as a choice of three kits with weapon choices within those, there's quite a bit of fragalicious fun to be had playing with friends, but the real draw is in the solo play. If you have any desire at all for nigh-perfect solo action, Far Cry is for you.

Midnight Club II builds on the illegal street racing fun found in the PS2 launch title Midnight Club. Like that game it pits you against street toughs in non-linear street races, all for bragging rights and access to better and more sophisticated rides. New in Midnight Club II are the police and the ability to drive a motorcycle.

The game begins with you in the charge of a slob named Moses. He acts as tutor, teaching you how to control your beater car and how to use power-ups, as well as offering overall moral support. He teaches you how to go about the business of the game: earning new gear such as Nitrous Oxide, new cars, and even new controls. The award of new controls later in the game show how you're a novice driver at the start but by the end you're a pro who can land on all four wheels after a jump, expertly control a power slide turn, and much, much more.

Much of the game consists of cruising around three large and well rendered cities: Paris, Tokyo, and Los Angeles. You don't just challenge someone to a race or sign up for an event and show up. Instead you get a map and have to follow a red dot. The dot is a rival racer. Once you track and chase him down, you flash your high beams and then you can race him. It's a clever way of giving you a warm up, keeping you immersed in the game, and best of all, teaching you the layout of each city.

Racing is fun, fast, and furious. This isn't a simulation, it's an arcade-style racer--but the physics system is internally consistent so it feels more "realistic" than it actually is. Rockstar has put a premium on keeping you in control, keeping the thrill-factor high, and giving you a heart stopping sense of speed. The graphics are fantastic and the cities are incredibly detailed. As a counter-point, the voice acting is just plain awful.

Midnight Club II offers a wide range of game modes ensuring it will be playable for a long time to come: career, mission, and a mode that lets you just jump into a race. Multiplayer is possible in hotseat mode, but it also supports Internet play. Internet lag is bad over dial-up modem (PS2), but broadband players (Xbox Live or PS2) will find the game silky smooth. All of this makes Midnight Club II a great addition to any videogame racing fan's library, but a must for online fans.

It will be more of a direct port so the level geometry, textures, sounds and models will remain wholly unchanged from the original, however, all of these old graphics will benefit greatly from all of the latest features in the Source engine including some shader effects (such as realistic water), dynamic lighting and shadow effects and full use of the Havok physics engine and rag-doll physics.
